Trailblazers Tomfoolery -The Mogendoura Ride
Trailblazers Tomfoolery Inc is a not-for-profit organisation set up in 2019 to run equestrian events and activities in the heart of Eurobodalla. NSWERA (NSW Endurance Riders Association) approved Trailblazers Tomfoolery to hold its first-ever event, the Mogendoura Endurance Ride, on 6-7 March 2021.
Mogendoura Farm was engulfed by bushfire on Thursday, 23 January, which resulted in a significant loss of stock and infrastructure, including ride-related items. Bushfires directly impacted all club committee members, so the first event was rescheduled to rebuild relationships within the local equestrian community. This event provided an opportunity for riders to participate in something new, and was designed to celebrate and reinvigorate local equestrian ties. The ride also established ties with 12 local businesses for catering, prizes, transport, etc., creating a fabulous event to attract the Eurobodalla people who may have otherwise visited.
Mogendoura Farm is a Farmstay accommodation provider offering ‘Horse Stay and Play’. We have three fully self-contained two-bedroom cottages, and there is a variety of horse agistment options for your stay. However, during the Mogendoura Ride event, the cottages and accommodations are donated to officials—such as the out-of-area vets and NSWERA officials.
The club consists of five members whose experience includes international and national event organisation, extensive media and marketing experience, financial business acumen and event experience specific to endurance riding. The club is also fortunate to have the support of other successful events, such as The Wingello Endurance Ride, which provides all manner of expertise on the specifics of running an endurance event.
TRAILBLAZERS TOMFOOLERY will be held 25-27 August.
The Club endeavours in the future to hold another Endurance Ride further South of Moruya to complement the current ride on offer in 2023.
The Mogendoura Endurance ride runs from Mogendoura Farm. Located on Hawdons Road, the ride base is 8 kilometres off the Princes Highway, just NW of Moruya on the NSW south coast. Saturday morning includes educational talks for riders new to endurance riding, with experts explaining how to survive and thrive on your first few rides, the basic rules of the sport, how to care for your horse during the event, and how to present your horse to the vets.
Endurance riding is a recognised family sport with no barriers to participation; the perfect opportunity to get away for the weekend and be rejuvenated while riding through the Australian bush.
Unlike some equestrian sports, which require expensive equipment and prescribed saddlery and riding outfits, endurance riding focuses on the well-being of the mount and rider. With horses presenting to multiple veterinary examinations at each event, endurance horses are among the best trained and cared for. With riders adhering to the sports' motto: 'To Complete is to Win'.
